Purpose
DeshiApp recognizes that reporting, analysis, investigations, opinion, software teardowns, and other published material can affect reputation, privacy, employment, commercial viability, personal safety, investor confidence, and public understanding across India’s digital ecosystem. People, developers, startups, and organizations materially affected by DeshiApp coverage have a clear, prompt, and transparent route to raise a concern, correct a factual misunderstanding, and provide a relevant, substantive response.
A right of reply supports fairness, equity, and the accuracy of the public record. It does not provide a person or organization with control over DeshiApp’s editorial conclusions, headlines, source selection, article length, publication timing, review scores, or continuing investigative coverage. This policy applies before and after publication and should be read together with the Corrections and Updates Policy, Editorial Complaints Procedure, Privacy Policy, Anonymous and Confidential Sources Policy, and Investigative Journalism Standards.
Types of Request
A correction request concerns a specific factual error or materially misleading statement and is sent to corrections@deshiapp.in. A grievance or right-of-reply request concerns the treatment of a person or organization, omission or presentation of a response, privacy, fairness, or another matter requiring a substantive editorial answer and is sent to complaints@deshiapp.in. A formal complaint alleges a breach of a published editorial policy or seeks review of an earlier decision. Privacy rights requests under the DPDP Act are sent to privacy@deshiapp.in, and formal statutory legal notices are sent to legal@deshiapp.in.
Using a legal route does not prevent DeshiApp from separately examining a factual or ethical concern through our independent newsroom processes.
Who May Raise a Grievance
A grievance or reply may be submitted by a person named or clearly identifiable in an article, an organization materially criticized, an authorized corporate representative, legal counsel, legal guardian, person whose private information was published, source, author, contributor, person whose image or codebase was examined, reader identifying a serious and specific fairness issue, or another party with a legitimate connection to the matter. DeshiApp may request proportionate evidence of authority where an agent acts for someone else.
A person does not need to be famous, legally represented, corporate-backed, or experienced in media relations to receive a prompt, equitable, and fair review.
Pre-Publication Right of Reply
Before publishing serious criticism, allegations of wrongdoing, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, or information likely to cause substantial reputational or commercial harm, DeshiApp normally gives the affected party a meaningful and timely opportunity to respond. The request identifies the principal matters under examination, substance of the criticism, material factual claims, relevant dates, documents, code repositories, or events requiring explanation, response deadline, applicable time zone, contact person, and proposed method of response.
DeshiApp is not required to reveal confidential-source identities, source-protection methods, unpublished evidence that would create physical or digital risk, a complete draft, unrelated reporting, legal advice, internal editorial discussions, or technical forensic indicators that could enable evidence destruction or whistleblower intimidation. The information supplied is nevertheless sufficient to allow an informed, detailed response.
Reasonable Time
The response period reflects the seriousness and complexity of the claims, volume of technical questions, urgency, consumer safety, publication schedule, availability of the affected party, language, time zones across India and international hubs, need to review documents or server logs, whether the matter is already public, and whether delay may cause further consumer harm. An urgent report concerning active data leaks may justify a short deadline, while a complex investigation into corporate governance may require longer.
DeshiApp does not impose an artificially short deadline merely to state that a response was requested. A reasonable, good-faith request for additional time to review technical logs or consult engineering leadership is considered fairly against the public interest and urgency.
Form and Verification of a Response
A response may be supplied by email, written corporate statement, recorded interview, documented telephone briefing, authorized legal representative, secure communication channel, supporting documentation, server telemetry, or another agreed form. The responder identifies the statements challenged, factual position, corroborating evidence, material limitations, attribution conditions, authority to speak, and any proposed confidentiality. No confidentiality condition applies unless DeshiApp accepts it expressly in writing.
A response is relevant evidence but is not automatically accepted as correct without independent evaluation. DeshiApp examines documents, technical logs, public filings with Indian regulators (such as MCA, RBI, or MeitY), legal status, technical evidence, source motivation, contradictions, prior public statements, institutional authority, and whether the responder has direct personal knowledge. Follow-up questions may be asked. Unrelated accusations, private personal data, deceptive claims, and material requiring further verification are not reproduced uncritically.
Representation of the Response
DeshiApp represents a material response accurately, proportionately, and fairly. It may quote verbatim, summarize clearly, link to a complete official statement, include a separate dedicated response section, add a post-publication update, publish a standalone reply, or explain why particular material was not reproduced. A summary preserves the central defense and does not omit decisive qualifications. A long corporate statement may be edited for readability and length where the substantive meaning remains intact.
DeshiApp preserves the editorial right to challenge, contextualize, or analyze the response against empirical benchmarks. Fairness does not require passive acceptance of corporate spin.
No Response or Refusal to Comment
Where no response is received by the stated deadline, an article may say that DeshiApp requested comment and did not receive a response by publication time only when the request was sent through a reasonable verified route, contained enough information, allowed proportionate time, and no reply was received. Silence is never portrayed as proof of guilt, and a response received post-publication is evaluated promptly for subsequent updates.
A refusal to comment is described neutrally and is not characterized as admission, guilt, deception, inability to answer, or confirmation unless independent evidence supports that interpretation. An organization or individual may decline comment because of active litigation in Indian courts, statutory confidentiality, lack of corporate authority, ongoing audits, or personal safety.
Post-Publication Right of Reply
A person or organization materially criticized may submit a reply where no adequate pre-publication opportunity was provided due to breaking news constraints, a response became available later, new technical evidence emerged, the article materially misrepresented the person’s position, the response would improve the public record, the article remains active, or fundamental fairness otherwise requires consideration.
The request identifies the specific article URL, exact matter addressed, factual response, supporting documentation, authority to act, requested remedy, and any urgency. A proposed reply may be declined if it fails to address the substance of the article, indulges in personal abuse, or primarily promotes unrelated products, commercial services, or political messaging.
Possible Outcomes
A post-publication response may result in maintaining the article unchanged with explanation, factual correction, clarification note, addition of the response within the body text, article update, editor’s note, separate response article, hyperlink to a full corporate statement, headline revision, privacy redaction, formal complaint review, or retraction where the original article is proven fundamentally unreliable. The remedy depends on whether the original work was inaccurate, incomplete, unfair, or materially changed by later information.
Limits of the Right of Reply
A right of reply does not provide a right to approve the article prior to publication, dictate the headline, select or remove independent sources, delete accurate criticism, suppress public-interest benchmarks, prevent DeshiApp from analyzing the response, control article placement, require publication of unlimited promotional text, prevent future investigative coverage, demand favorable search presentation, or use commercial advertising leverage or legal threats to coerce the newsroom.
A subject may identify factual errors and supply empirical evidence. DeshiApp retains exclusive responsibility and authority for the final editorial decision.
New Allegations in a Reply
A reply may contain fresh counter-allegations against another company, competitor, founder, or whistleblower. DeshiApp does not publish new allegations merely because they were included in a corporate response. New allegations require independent verification, pre-publication right of reply for the newly criticized party, legal review, redaction from the published reply, or separate journalistic reporting. A right of reply is not a vehicle for transferring unverified harm to another party.
Private and Sensitive Information
Responses must not unnecessarily include private residential addresses, personal phone numbers, Aadhaar or PAN numbers, bank account details, children’s information, intimate details, medical records, confidential source identities, passwords, private cryptographic keys, privileged legal communications, or information creating a safety hazard. DeshiApp may redact or summarize sensitive personal data while preserving the substantive arguments.
Public Authorities, Companies and Private Individuals
Governments, ministries, unicorn startups, venture capital firms, and large institutions possess professional communications machinery and substantial resources. Their responses are treated fairly but remain subject to rigorous verification. An official corporate statement may establish the entity’s position without resolving the underlying factual issue. DeshiApp avoids allowing a powerful organization’s resources or legal threats to overwhelm the legitimate voice of an individual developer, consumer, or affected citizen.
Private individuals, grassroots creators, and independent developers may require additional explanation, patience, and time. DeshiApp considers media experience, language, access to records, vulnerability, retaliation risk, family impact, urgency, need for identification, and whether anonymization preserves public value. A lack of media experience is never treated as evidence of unreliability.
Children, students, and vulnerable digital citizens receive heightened privacy and safety consideration under Indian law. A parent, guardian, school, or corporate developer does not have an unlimited right to publish a minor’s personal information, and DeshiApp may decline identifying detail even where an adult requests it.
Contributor and Source Grievances
Authors, tech analysts, and freelance contributors may raise grievances concerning false attribution, material alteration of their submitted thesis, undisclosed editorial changes, plagiarism, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, pressure to conceal sponsorship, improper use of identity, source-protection failure, or pressure to breach ethics. Contractual payment disputes are handled through commercial channels, while substantive editorial concerns remain reviewable.
A source may complain that DeshiApp breached agreed confidentiality, misrepresented their briefing, published unsafe identifying information, used off-the-record material improperly, changed attribution without consent, failed to secure sensitive documents, or ignored a material correction. Source grievances receive confidential handling, and the publication does not disclose a protected identity merely to explain the complaint publicly.
Commercial Grievances
Advertisers, commercial sponsors, and enterprise partners may raise concerns about inaccurate presentation of agreed commercial material, a missing sponsorship label, contractual production error, incorrect brand asset, broken commercial link, or failure to follow a lawful written Insertion Order. Commercial grievance review does not provide control over independent reporting, and commercial personnel do not make editorial determinations concerning independence.
Review and Findings
DeshiApp aims to acknowledge a specific grievance or right-of-reply request within five business days. Review may examine the published article and earlier drafts, source notes, interview recordings, communication correspondence, documents, author and editor explanations, conflict disclosures, commercial agreements, privacy, legal status, public interest, applicable policy, and requested remedy.
A review may conclude that DeshiApp acted fairly, that the response was adequately represented, that additional response should be appended, that a factual correction or clarification is required, that the article should be reclassified, that privacy should be adjusted, that a reply should be published separately, that no change is warranted, that a formal complaint review is necessary, or that the article should be retracted.
Appeal and Closure
A person or organization dissatisfied with the decision may appeal under the Editorial Complaints Procedure by identifying a material factual error, overlooked evidence, incorrect policy application, unfair process, conflict of interest, or new information. Repetitive submissions without new grounds may be closed after a reasoned final response.
Abuse, Coordinated Pressure and No Retaliation
DeshiApp may limit communication that is threatening, discriminatory, automated, deceptive, persistently repetitive, or designed to intimidate reporters and confidential sources. A coordinated campaign involving dozens of identical messages does not establish that the underlying complaint is valid. Any specific factual concern within such campaigns is still assessed objectively.
DeshiApp strictly forbids retaliation against any individual or company for raising a good-faith grievance, correction request, or right of reply. A contributor, source, reader, developer, or advertiser does not lose fair treatment merely because they challenged the publication. Knowingly false, manipulative, or threatening conduct will be managed proportionately.
Public Accountability and Contact
Material rights-of-reply additions, corrections, reclassifications, and formal grievance determinations may be documented in the Public Corrections Log or Annual Editorial Transparency Reports while safeguarding personal privacy and confidential security information.
Grievances and rights-of-reply submissions should be sent to complaints@deshiapp.in. Specific factual corrections may be sent to corrections@deshiapp.in. Data privacy inquiries under the DPDP Act should be directed to privacy@deshiapp.in, and formal statutory legal notices must be delivered to legal@deshiapp.in.
