Conflict of Interest Policy

Purpose

A conflict of interest exists where a financial, commercial, professional, or personal interest could compromise or reasonably appear to compromise an individual’s editorial objectivity. At DeshiApp, our credibility depends on maintaining absolute independence and factual integrity across all coverage of software platforms, startups, venture investments, and digital public policy.

DeshiApp does not claim that authors and editors have no personal interests or professional backgrounds. Rather, our standard requires that material relationships are actively declared, assessed, and transparently disclosed so readers can evaluate whether external ties could have influenced our reporting.

Duty to Disclose

All editorial personnel and contributors have an affirmative duty to disclose any material interest, commercial relationship, investment, or outside professional engagement that could create a real or perceived conflict regarding their assigned topics. Disclosures must be made before assignments are accepted or reporting begins.

Financial Interests

Financial conflicts include direct shareholdings, startup stock options, convertible notes, venture fund stakes, cryptocurrency tokens, commercial developer grants, or financial sponsorships related to any platform or enterprise under review.

A financial interest is disclosed publicly when a reasonable reader would consider it relevant to evaluating the article’s objectivity. Holding significant equity or advisory tokens in a covered entity creates a presumption of conflict requiring recusal or independent editorial review.

Employment and Professional Relationships

Professional conflicts include current or recent employment, consulting contracts, advisory board seats, corporate retainers, or paid PR whitepaper writing undertaken within the preceding twelve months. Writers must never review or investigate current or recent clients.

Publisher Conflicts

Conflicts involving the Publisher require heightened care because the Publisher holds institutional authority over DeshiApp. Publisher investments, commercial partnerships, external advisory posts, and personal ventures are governed under strict transparency safeguards.

Safeguards include mandatory article-level disclosures, independent fact review by unaffiliated editors, recusal of the Publisher from editorial determinations, or outright rejection of coverage where the conflict cannot be credibly managed.

Family and Personal Relationships

Material personal relationships include spouses, domestic partners, close relatives, or business co-founders who hold leadership, equity, or lobbying roles in entities subject to DeshiApp’s coverage. Writers with such ties are recused from covering those organizations.

Political and Advocacy Interests

Political conflicts include public office, political candidacy, formal campaign advisory roles, or leadership positions in digital policy lobbying coalitions or political parties.

While contributors are entitled to private civic engagement, advocacy experience must be transparently disclosed, and contributors must not use DeshiApp to advance partisan legislative campaigns or private lobbying objectives.

Legal Disputes and Litigation

Editorial staff and contributors must disclose material litigation, regulatory complaints, arbitration proceedings, or intellectual property disputes involving companies or platforms they are assigned to cover, triggering immediate recusal.

Competitors and Interested Sources

When assessing software platforms, reporters must exercise critical caution when engaging direct market competitors. Rival claims and competitive critiques provide valuable context but must be independently audited rather than accepted at face value.

A source’s conflict is not identical to an author’s conflict, but interested-party assertions must be attributed accurately and verified through empirical benchmarking and neutral technical corroboration.

Gifts, Products, Travel and Access

Gifts and commercial benefits can create actual or perceived obligations. DeshiApp staff and contributors must never accept cash payments, lavish hospitality, expensive consumer hardware, or subsidized luxury travel from coverage subjects.

Software licenses and hardware review units provided for evaluation must be handled under transparent review protocols and returned where applicable. Free review access does not entitle the vendor to favorable coverage or editorial previews.

Modest, customary hospitality at developer conferences—such as working lunches or media credentials—is acceptable when consistent with standard industry practice and does not impair editorial judgment.

Embargoes, Access and Backlinks

DeshiApp respects fair technical embargoes that provide adequate time for hands-on software evaluation. We reject embargo agreements that demand positive reviews or bar outreach to independent security researchers.

Writers are categorically forbidden from selling, trading, or promising paid ‘do-follow’ backlinks, promotional anchor text, or search engine manipulation under any circumstances.

Sponsored Content and Hidden Clients

Sponsored Content, brand integrations, and partner analyses are handled through commercial desks and distinctly labeled. Marketing agencies and corporate sponsors are strictly prohibited from pitching client content disguised as independent guest analysis.

AI and Technology Relationships

Staff must declare commercial partnerships, early developer access tiers, or advisory relationships with commercial artificial intelligence vendors whose models, APIs, or platforms are under review.

Disclosure Standard

When an article involves a relevant but manageable conflict, a clear, prominent disclosure is placed at the beginning of the text, stating the precise nature of the relationship in plain, unambiguous terms.

Not every internal disclosure requires public publication. The editorial desk determines whether the interest is material to readers, maintaining an internal record of all conflict assessments.

Disclosure Does Not Cure Every Conflict

Transparency alone is insufficient to resolve severe, irreconcilable conflicts. Where an author holds substantial equity, direct employment, or personal litigation against an entity, disclosure cannot replace objective reporting; reassignment or recusal is mandatory.

Recusal and Additional Review

When a conflict is declared, senior editorial leads will assign the piece to an unaffiliated writer or mandate multi-layered review by independent technical editors to ensure absolute analytical rigor.

Conflicts Arising After Publication

If a conflict emerges or is discovered after an article is published, DeshiApp conducts an immediate editorial inquiry, appends a public disclosure notice, and determines whether independent re-evaluation or retraction is warranted.

Concealment and Enforcement

Deliberate concealment of a commercial conflict, hidden client relationship, or financial interest represents a fundamental breach of journalistic trust. Possible responses include article retraction, termination of contributor contracts, and permanent disbarment.

DeshiApp maintains a confidential conflict register recording all employee declarations, external engagements, and editorial recusal determinations to ensure institutional accountability.
